Paul Lewandowski is passionate about design, be it architecture, interiors, or fashion.  At the age of 10 he discovered his grandmother’s sewing machine and has been creating ever since.

For Paul, design is about form and its relationship to the body, regardless of whether it is a garment, a product or a building.  His design philosophy is centered on how memories can manifest themselves in response to a powerful narrative.  He believes that stories told through design can cause meaningful introspection and connect us to forgotten experiences.

Paul is active in the Maine design community.  His fashion design work has been part of runway shows in Portland and Boston and won several “best in show” awards at the IIDA New England annual fashion show.  Recently his work was seen in Marie Claire magazine as part of the Project Runway casting feature.  His commercial carpeting design, “Coastal Rocks” will be released this year by Mannington Commercial Flooring in 16 colorways and two patterns.

His architecture design has been recognized through various award programs including a MaineAIA Design Award for Hebron Academy, IIDA New England Interior Design Award for EMMC Lafayette Family Cancer Center and a National Brick Institute award for St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, ME.  His projects have been profiled in Architectural Record, Maine Home + Design and Martha Stewart Living.  Paul is also a 1983 recipient of the Atari Star award for outstanding computer programming achievement.

Paul likes to run, bike, swim and row.  He lives with his wife Mary, director of Wayside Food Programs, and daughter Ava in Portland’s West End.
